Artist Statement
I paint to celebrate the vivid beauty of the natural world. Working in oil, I create impressionistic landscapes and still life’s inspired by flowers from my garden, a
taxidermy peacock, and the changing moods of light and season. My process blends
observation with emotion — I paint from life or from photographs, seeking to capture not just what I see, but the joy I feel while painting. Each work reflects a moment of connection, a harmony of color and atmosphere that reveals nature’s enduring grace.
Through my paintings, I hope to share that sense of joy and invite viewers to
rediscover the quiet brilliance that surrounds us every day.
Bio
I began painting en plein air in Laguna Beach, CA around the year 2000. Living in Laguna Beach gave me the opportunity to paint many beautiful canyon scenes and seascapes.
My mentor was Saim Caglayan, founder of Laguna Plein Air Painters Association.
I have taken workshops with Ken Auster, Mark Kerckhoff, Eric Merrell, Ray Roberts and Cynthia Britain. I exhibited my work at Studio 7 Gallery and the Sawdust Festival for twenty years, and was invited to participate in the Laguna Art Museum Auction for many years. In 2005 I won the Artist Choice Award.
In 2016 I moved to Roanoke, VA. The historical Old Southwest district is my new home. I love Victorian houses and I have restored my 1880’s home to its former grandeur. My home also features a large garden which certainly plays a part in my paintings. I paint dahlias, persimmons, sunflowers and lilacs. My painting subjects are seasonal, I paint persimmons in the Fall, Lilacs in the early spring and Zinnia’s at the end of summer.
I am devoted to painting my taxidermy peacock and a collection of specific pieces that I have formed an attachment to. Flow Blue waste bowls, the Delft bunny cup, the Geisha vase and enamel Chinese opium jars are all subjects that are rearranged and used again to design the next painting.
The exhibition is on display through December 26, 2025.
