SaraJane Lee was born in New York and grew up with a very strong connection to the arts. Throughout her artistic evolution, she has focused on accurate physical representation, as well as conveying the range and complexity of emotion evoked by an image.
Over the past few years, working with crayons have become an integral part of SaraJane’s work. The medium combines and expresses the whimsical nature of her personality, with the textural energy of the wax and its vibrancy of color. While drawn to realism, the dichotomy of her precise realistic renderings with tools presumed for the artistically primitive, present a distinct and innovative approach to SaraJane’s work. You can relate immediately to her drawings. The large scale in which she prefers to work adds to their impact and enables a purity of emotional response.
SaraJane is finishing a bachelor’s degree in fine art at the Paier College of Art in Hamden, Connecticut and after graduating plans to continue exploring the symbiotic relationship between her medium and her style. She currently lives and works in Hamden, Connecticut and will continue to forge her pieces into a figurative well of color.
