WICKLINE SPEED CLUB

Wickline Speed Club at Alexander/Heath Contemporary Roanoke Virginia

Exhibition Opening on April 5, 2024

Closing will be April 26 from 6-9 PM

Wickline Speed Shop is an archival photography exhibit documenting the lives of Happy and CT Wickline, early motorcycle pioneers. These photos are a glimpse into motorcycle history through the lens of Wickline Speed Shop, documenting Harley racing, friends, family on Sunday rides, and pure love for motorcycles. A notable quality of these photographs is that they weren’t shot by the hands of professionals but were simply a way to capture their family legacy.

The name of this exhibit, Wickline Speed Shop, is inspired by CT’s motorcycle shop where he’d build custom race bikes after long days of farming in Botetourt County. From this small shop with primitive means, CT was at the forefront of Harley Davidson racing and innovation. In the same vein as CT’s mechanical genius, Happy was revolutionary in her own right by being a pioneering motorcyclist who organized community events, fostering cultural growth throughout the region. Together as a family unit, CT and Happy played pivotal roles in hill climb, dirt track, and early drag racing of Virginia; they were also influential across the East Coast and participated in the inaugural years of Daytona Bike Week.

Giving the devil his due, Trey Burnart Hall, great-grandson of CT and Happy Wickline, and Thomas Rakes are curating this exhibit with a goal of historical preservation and hope to celebrate the passion and history cultivated by the Wickline Speed Shop. This is a collection of Wickline family photographs passed down by “Ninny” Judy Fisher and Bobbi Jo Hall, daughter and granddaughter of CT and Happy Wickline.

The end goal is a robust, tangible exhibit and eventually a detailed book. Please follow us at @wicklinespeedshop on Instagram to stay updated on our progress! Thank you so much for supporting this project.
